A robot is a mechanical or virtual agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry.
Robotics Robots are used in many areas of manufacturing from heavy work right through to delicate operations. Examples include paint spraying of bodies, welding car body work on cars, manufacturing of microchips, manufacturing electrical goods and automatic warehouses.
Robots are often equipped with sensors so they can gather important information about their surroundings. Sensors also prevent them from doing stupid things, such as stopping a robot spraying a car if no car is present, or stopping the spraying operation if the supply of paint has run out, etc. Robots are very good at repetitive tasks.
About Disadvantages about robots :
- A disadvantage of using robots is that they can only do what they are programmed to do. Another disadvantage of robots is that they cannot be counted on to respond correctly during emergencies. Finally, a main disadvantage is that robots are expensive.
- They must be given an ordered set of tasks within
the capabilities of their programming. In electronic circuit board
assembly they must be given the correct parts in the right place.
